Personal Growth

Part of growing up involves developing certain skills that are necessary to function in society: independence, time management, organization, social skills, self-confidence. While students who have never experienced life outside of the traditional classroom still have the ability to realize these skills, those that have grown up learning in the global classrooms have a very tangible advantage.

In certain situations, like a semester abroad in college, it’s likely to be the first time a student is on their own, and therefore he or she is forced to develop these skills at an accelerated rate or at a higher level simply out of pure necessity

Cultural Growth

The world is an enormous place; one of the biggest disservices we can do to ourselves is limiting our perspective on life and the rest of the world by not getting out and experiencing it. There is an intangible value that comes from immersing oneself self in a culture – acclimating to a new place, integrating into the community, interacting with local people, and understanding the ways others live.

Personally, visiting with and teaching middle-school children in a migrant school outside of Beijing has helped me appreciate and value the quality of education available back home in America. It has also helped me to recognize my own privileged position and develop a greater sense of empathy, in turn inspiring me to want to give back.

Traveling to different countries in Europe and Asia allowed me to see how other societies live, what their news headlines look like, and how the people there perceive both America and the rest of the world. I’ve been able to develop my own opinions based on things I’ve actually seen, experiences from places I’ve actually visited, and the thoughts of people I’ve actually met.

Student Engagement.

Research shows that when students learn content through authentic tasks and real-world experiences, they are more likely to engage, which in turn leads to higher attendance and achievement. Global education directly engages students with real-world issues and activities. What better way to entice students to practice Spanish than have them Skype with peers in Mexico, or to teach the skills of writing an argumentative essay by having them debate global current events pulled straight from the headlines?

College and Career Readiness.

Our economy is global, with over 40 million U.S. jobs tied to international trade. Employers today are desperate to higher graduates with cross-cultural skills that allow them to work in diverse teams and with clients all over the world. By providing students with opportunities to understand the wider world and the diversity of people, cultures, and perspectives in it, schools are also giving students a competitive edge in the marketplace.

Social-Emotional Learning.
Learning from and with the world doesn’t only benefit students’ academic development, but contributes to their social-emotional development as well. Global education helps develop self-awareness of one’s own identity, culture, beliefs and how those connect with the wider world, social awareness including empathy, perspective-taking, appreciating diversity, and respecting others, and relationship-building skills with diverse individuals and groups through effective communication and collaboration.
Academics

Let us have a look at how it benefits the academics of students. Students in different countries are taught differently since the teaching traditions and education systems vary. Also, cultures and economic conditions change the style and methods of teaching greatly. Connecting to students from other countries will enable students to see, and probably experience different methods of teaching and not only they, but their educators will also learn from it. The course contents will also vary and the discussion between students will help them learn a lot.

Awareness

The Global classrooms for students in India are a great way to teach students about the diversity of the human race, as well as the living conditions and economic situation of different areas around the world. It is something that will definitely broaden their point of view and will make them aware of international issues and international relations too.

Personality development

Personality development is a very invaluable outcome of global classroom programs. When students meet other students from very different backgrounds and cultures, they learn about the diversity found in the world and they learn to exist and live in harmony with all the different kinds of people and the different cultures that are there. The ability to be flexible enough to live in a multicultural environment is something that every person who wished to succeed must develop, and global classrooms provide students with the golden opportunity to develop this capability. Tolerance and understanding come with the awareness and broadening of vision, and these are qualities that every student must-have. Communication skills are also greatly improved through global classroom programs, and students’ confidence is strengthened.
